I would like to comment to Glen ’s comment “Rule of thumb…..” In the MTS paper that was published in September and should have been available in all public schools across the province had an article about teacher blogs. In the article it explained what happened to several teachers because of what they included in their blogs. Both the School Divisions and MTS frown upon the use of blogs by teachers to use it as a soapbox to air their grievances.
Remember: Never say anything on a blog that you would not be able to say in a crowded room or have aired on a radio station.
Excellent advice Glen. Thanks.

This kind of thing goes back to the same problem that teachers have always had. Our lives are not private. What we do on our own time in our community affects how the public perceives us as teachers. There is an ‘expectation’ that we are professional in all aspects of our lives…
I agree that we have to be ever so careful as to what we say in public, in private, on the phone, in passing, at home, or on the computer… I myself (being a humourist/comedian of sorts (I think) have to be ever so mindful of this line): In comedy you can go to the line, bend it if you dare, twist in another direction but if you go over or snap it… you best get ready for the backlash: Don Imus and the fella from Seinfeld do come to mind.
Rule of Thumb: Never let up your guard. If you do get ready for life to sneak up on you and bite you unawares…
